On a fun note...Carrie's bedding showcased at Heimtex..

On a fun note – I was asking our bedding client how Heimtex was this year.
Below is what he wrote and see bedding design he purchased from Carrie C.

Heimtex is slower than last year, less people than before.   But we are good and many clients like our baby product.   We show the Butterfly Carrie designed, everyone like that.  Here is the photo for your review.

Report from Talia at Heimtex..

Hi Kim,

Thank you.
This time I didn’t have a booth at "Heimtextil". I just visited the fair. It was very beautiful. Many new things. A little less visitors than on previous years.
I also went to Hanover to “Domotex". There were more exhibitors of machine carpets from Turkey. I heard that the market of handmade carpets in Germany is not good.
Also I saw some rugs presented with my designs.

Ritika reports from Heimtex/ January 2013/Germany

Dear Kim,

Some information from Heimtex 2013.

  • Watercolor effect and hand painted florals was the most popular highlight, some images attached
  • Paisleys both in classic and contemporary could be seen with some watercolor effect.
  • A lot of digital prints were also to be seen with designs or patterns graphically created or from photographs.
  • Also mixing of patterns with stripes like overlays ,line drawings and graphics was seen this year.

Thanks & regards
Ritika

Very cool...

As reported by Edie Cohen in Interior Design, James Dayton and Janet Gridley use hand-knitted afghans to decorate the private dining room at theBachelor Farmer Restaurant in Minneapolis, MN.

Fashion Inspiration Bomb Blog: www.fashionbombdaily.com

I always dig a good blog devoted to fashion:

Today's post:

It’s an exciting time in Washington D.C.! First Lady Michelle Obama attended at the Kids’ Inaugural Ball wearing an Alexander McQueen Victorian Bustle Cotton Piquet Shirt, paired with an embellished yellow belt, and black trousers. Her cotton blouse features a Victorian bustle in the back. Hot! She is sleek, radiant, with just the perfect dose

This is cool from www.hornytoad.com (I am a fan of their apparel):

little free library

library 1
Our creative director Jason modeled this little free library after the historic building Horny Toad Clothing has called home for seven years.  Our office is slated for demolition this summer to accommodate restoration work on Mission Creek, which runs alongside it. We hope this little library serves as thanks to both our neighborhood (affectionately referred to as The Funk Zone) and the building itself for giving us a great place to hang our hats for so long.  Don’t worry about the Toads going without a home, though – we’re pretty excited about our new digs.
To learn more about how to put a little free library in your neighborhood, check out www.littlefreelibrary.org.

When a sale occurs:

What happens when I get a sale?
When you have a sale, we will contact you and let you know what the file requirements are from the client.
At this time you can accept or pass on the purchase request.

If you accept, it’s on you to provide the client with what they are asking for which in most cases these days is vector format of the art and (most of the time) in repeat.

From now on, if a client rejects your art because it’s not in layers / PSD or vector / Ai or the repeat is messy – the art will go directly to our KD expert(s).
We have three trusted souls on “call” and depending on the time of day – we can always reach one within minutes to do the work.  Therefore, the client does not need to wait for “repairs”.
No second chances (sorry – I know I sound mean) for making edits at this point.  So, we beg you to look your production file over closely before shuffling it to me and/or Chanta.

The KD file expert(s) we retain,  will “repair” your art for a reasonable amount which will be deducted from your portion of the sale proceeds.  (Usually the range is $5.00 - $50.00 for a total re-draw/repeat work).
In the past, KD has secretly just picked up the fees or split them with the designer.  But, it seems to work better if there is a penalty for sending us “faulty” production files.
Once the expert has repaired your file – we will send that file back to you so you may diagnose what went astray and hopefully learn from the experience.  Sorry, there is not time for us to also tutor you.
Please Google or learn from an expert as able.

One thing – if you are not fluent in Illustrator, simply tell us – but please don’t just go in and save a tiff as an Ai file – that does not work.  If we know ahead that the art is not in the right requirement, we can immediately work on it for you.

Please realize that faulty files reflect on KD poorly and we are working towards being the TOP Design House in all facets of what we do.  Depth and Quality of Art, Very timely client services and experts on demand….24/7 for whatever the client may need of us.
