Betty Boo-ty: Body Padding in Unusual Places

Recently, rumors have been flying about Pippa Middleton's now-famous derrière. On a recent TLC exposé, Crazy About Pippa, a spa owner stated that she was dubious about whether or not Pippa's behind was 100% real during the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, also making the observation that her bottom supposedly appears much flatter in other pictures when she's out and about. The pictures and camera shots of Pippa carrying Kate's train from behind rocketed Pippa's small but perky bottom to fame, making small and round the new fad in booties, many women even asking for plastic surgery to achieve the "Pippa butt". These rumors are probably unfounded, but it does bring an interesting issue to light. Body padding has been around for a while, helping to enhance women's curves where they may be lacking. From push up bras to padded panties, to theatrical padding like the padding used on John Travolta in the popular film Hairspray to give him "womanly" curves, body padding is more common than you would think. Body padding is even used by plus-sized models to enhance curves for photo shoots and to please potential employers. Is body padding a normal thing, that helps enhance body shape and boost confidence, or is it merely another industry trick helping to create unrealistic body image for women everywhere? Let us know what you think in the comments!

What do you think? Is the difference enough to be suspicious?

Plus-size model Marquita, an admitted "padder". In an interview for Women's Wear Daily, she says that different employers prefer a wide range of sizes when casting plus-size models, so when an employer is looking for larger sized women, models may add padding to enhance curves and up the appearance of their body size to please the employers and  increase the chance of being cast for the shoot.
