Back to work but never a grind at Kim Designs.

Well, we did it!

We successfully vacationed as a family.

That may seem like a silly statement but for a husband and wife team that feel tied to their jobs (out of the love of running our own companies), the fact that we didn't call the airlines to move our flight time home early - was nearly a first.

Guiltily I admit this but my husband and I are known to be sitting on the beach with toes in the sand and an adult beverage in hand, and look at each other - and say to the sorts...this is great, but want to get our flight moved up early to get back to work?

So, much to our surprise, this past week was spent with not a thought of coming home early.

The last eight days flew by.  The kids wanted to come home early to see the dog but Dave and I never uttered those words.

We kept busy traveling nearly 1000 miles in the car rental with the kids in tow seeing grand visions (like the Grand Canyon) and hiking many trails, bouldering and climbing a big rock named Camelback in Scottsdale, AZ where I proceeded to fall down a rock boulder.

One of the funniest things I will bore you with is the night my husband didn't feel well.

After every evening of asking the concierge where to eat for the best meals in town, the night Dave was sick, we took the kids to the local grocery store and said - pick out whatever you want for dinner.

I grabbed Carr's crackers, Brie Cheese and a bottle of Pinot Noir (is there not a more perfect meal to be had)?  The kids grabbed Lunchables (Ugh ...of all things).

As we ate (while Dave slept) in front of the reality t.v. show (Pawn Stars), the kids turned to me to announce that this was the best dinner they had on vacation.  The sight of Lunchables in their highly-mega-processed format makes me shutter but what did I care with my crackers, cheese and wine in my lap?

Anywho - this vacation reminded me how much just being a family can be when you un-plug from the normal routines of life.   We laughed so hard at being silly, cried and fought like cats and dogs but upon flying home we voted it was so much fun, that we are considering a second vacation in the next month.

Wow - that'd be a first!

Cheer to all and HUGE appreciation for Chanta in keeping the KD boat on course.

And please note, the moment our plane landed - I was emailing Chanta dying to get back into the KD routine.
