Happy Saturday - notes from our trend expert

Good Saturday Morning,

Like I mentioned, I retain experts in trends and art consultants from time to time.
They are paid to pull patterns from http://www.kimdesigns.com/ to meet the requirements of our clients.

Below is what our "kleenex" expert pointed to as "must follow trends" in 2012 for home.  The list of design names are the patterns she deemed best in kimdesigns.com to fit her trend picks.
I wanted to share this as I felt you would find it "good information" and interesting how this works behind the "seams" here at KD.

Enjoy!  See below:

1. Maximista (eclectic)
Maximistas are feathering their nests with plenty of eye candy. Their homes are visually rich, full of patterns and colors and textures in an eclectic collection showcasing their loves and personalities. This trend is a direct contrast to minimalism. Maximista homes are un-appoligetically bold mixing classics with quirky.

Recommendations are primarily for pattern - may need to be recolored to truly fit this trend. Consider experimenting with a mix of colors (teal, orange, white, chocolate).

The key to an accent design is infusing it with personality - make it a bold statement. To sway any of these design to accent consider bold, attention getting colors and using larger scale.

Designs meant to blend need to become more mainstream and mellow. To sway any of these designs to blend consider more muted colors and a limited pallet; also try medium to smaller scale elements.

2. Urban Pop (contemporary)
Similar to Maximista, the Urban Pop trend is not for those who are afraid to make a statement. Bold colors, clean lines and graphic shapes are prominent design elements. Unlike Maximista, Urban Pop tends to shy away from overload choosing instead to accentuate a home's decor with focal points.

Recommendations are primarily for pattern - may need to be recolored to truly fit this trend. Consider a bright, cheerful pallet or adding a pop of color to an otherwise monochromatic scheme (black, white, lime).

3. Luxe (updated traditional)
Luxe is all about the appreciation of indulgence. Rich color pallets, plush textures, and polished finishes add a decadent touch to any room. Traditional jacquards and damasks still play a role in this trend but are joined by classic argyles and houndstooths to add an aura of sophistication. Those who embrace this trend envision offering the comforts and amenities of the finest 5-star hotels in the comfort and privacy of their own homes.

Recommendations are primarily for pattern - may need to be recolored to truly fit this trend. Consider rich colors (chocolate, plum, steel).

The key to an accent design is infusing it with personality - make it a bold statement. To sway any of these design to accent consider bold, attention getting colors within this trend's pallet and using larger scale.

Designs meant to blend need to become more mainstream and mellow. To sway any of these designs to blend consider more muted colors and a limited pallet; also try medium to smaller scale elements.

4. Relax (casual)
Decor following the Relax trend is truly a haven to kick back and forget about all the stresses of a busy world outside. Soft, light color pallets sooth the senses while friendly florals, ginghams, and nautical patterns are a sampling of some of the carefree themes carried throughout the home. Some decors in this trend may resemble the feeling of a sandy beach others a meadow while others are more like a spa, but whatever form the details take, the common thread is the care-free peaceful atmosphere it creates.

Recommendations are primarily for pattern - may need to be recolored to truly fit this trend. Consider a softer, soothing color pallet that takes its inspiration from nature (sandy beiges, sky blues, cloud whites, mossy greens, sunny yellows).
