Nancy sent me this link - very interesting:

TREND Here is one art trend that is hopeful for my art: more hand-drawn work
The Elegance of Textile Design: Laura Foster Nicholson         LFN Textiles
TMFMA: What do you think the main trends are for 2012-2013? My clients are asking for more hand-drawn work, maybe pen & ink or watercolor washes. It is certainly a reaction to all of the vector-drawn, computerized design out there.

Kim writes: I wish I could find more clients that appreciate the hand-drawn works.  I think KD is not well represented in these higher-end clients that want this look.

Thanks Nancy for this insight/trend!

Made In Your Shade -

What a great idea!  I am a known sationery-aholic.
I will take a picture sometime to prove it.
I think what Allyson Morehead (above article) did was genius.

Kim's Favs for week of 8/23/2012

Spotlight on Angie T....

How long have you been contributing to KD?
I've been contributing to KD since January 2012

Where do you live? (State, Country)
South Georgia, USA
When did you realize you had a passion for art/design?
I have ALWAYS loved art/design. I was the child who loved lining up all the crayons  in color coordinated order.
Did you inherit your passion/artistic genetics from someone in your family?
I did not inherit my ability from my parents, but I do believe it is all completely God-given.  I am self taught, so when I come up
with designs I can feel and see God working through my creations.
What is one of your favorite design/art you have created?
That is a really tough question...It's like choosing among your children which you love the most.  I like all of them; it just depends on what mood I'm in as to which one I identify most with.

Why this piece?
Right now I am in a "l love pink, green and some other bold color with it" phase. However, that could change tomorrow!
Do you have a hobby outside creating/art?
I love to read. I usually have at least 3 or 4 books going at one time.  And none of them are related to each other.  I guess that is the perpetual student coming out in me!
If you were a color, what color would you be?  Why that color?
I LOVE green!  It represents growth.  It can be soothing and comforting; it can be bold and courageous.  I use it as a starting point for all of my designs.  I once read a quote in a magazine where a designer stated, "green is God's neutral."  I love that!  It expressed what  I intuitively have thought about green for a long time.
Favorite food?
I love all food!  But if I had to narrow it down a bit...I love Japanese and Italian foods.
Favorite movie and/or book?
Loved "The Help" (both the book and the movie).  As an attorney, any book that involves "legal twists and turns" always keeps my attention.  Really enjoyed "Lincoln Lawyer."  When it comes to movies I love romance and comedy most---so "When Harry Met Sally,"  "An Affair to Remember," "The Notebook" ...then there's my other wacky side like "Monster in Law, Wedding Crashers, Bridesmaids.  Just noticed all those have to do with weddings!
A guilty pleasure?
chocolate truffles especially Kahlua flavored truffles
What would be your dream job?
I would love to be the product development coordinator for a clothing company or for a gift company
If we showed up at your house unexpectedly on a Friday evening, what is something we would find you doing?
Well by the world's standards, nothing too exciting.  Most likely I am hanging out with my daughters, watching a movie, or spending time with my husband.

Have a great Thursday!
Kim

Good, Fast, Cheap -

If you are able to read the above (I love this editor of RealSimple), I find this idea of GOOD FAST CHEAP at the cornerstone of KD's business model.  Our two main corporate themes of those three - are GOOD and FAST.
But, not Cheap.
GOOD DESIGNS,  GOOD CLIENT CARE & WE ALWAYS WORK FAST
