If we showed up at your house unexpectandly on a Friday evening, what is something we would find you doing?
My kids coming back from soccer, mostly sure they would come with friends, the house would be a total mess and at night I`ll be so tired that my husband would ask to go somewhere else to have fun and I`ll be begging him to stay home and watch tv or go to sleep early at night.
An interesting or funny fact about you that you’d be willing to share…?
My husband is a writer and I`m a designer. Although we live in a very competitive world we sticked to our passions from the very begining and succed on making a living from them.
This is the best lesson I think we are teaching to our 3 kids: hold on to your passions and maybe you won`t be rich, but you will be the happiest person in the world.
(Great to know you better Marcela! Happy Friday everyone).

Spotlight on Marlene P!!
How long have you been contributing to KD? Since 2009.
Where do you live? (State, Country) Connecticut, USA.
When did you realize you had a passion for art/design? For as long as I can remember my parents have encouraged my artistic side, I was always drawing, painting, or sculpting something.
Did you inherit your passion/artistic genetics from someone in your family? My mother has always been very artistic, she worked at a pottery studio when we were children which meant that we always had clay to play with.
What is one of your favorite design/art you have created?
Why this piece? My taste changes constantly, however this is the first design that I ever sold to a client, so it represents me finally "making it" as a designer.
Do you have a hobby outside creating/art? Currently I am really excited for warm weather so that I can fly kites, tend my gardens, and go hiking.
If you were a color, what color would you be? Probably green. I need to be surrounded by forests to feel at ease.
Favorite food? Zucchini stuffed with quinoa, farro, and chicken sausage.
Favorite movie or book? It's a tie between, The Years of Rice and Salt, by Kim Stanley Robinson and Kafka on the Shore, by Haruki Murakami.
A guilty pleasure? Chocolate covered frozen bananas.
If we showed up at your house unexpectedly on a Friday evening, what is something we would find you doing? Cleaning! I like to do a thorough weekly house cleaning Friday evenings so that I can spend all weekend designing without being distracted.
An interesting or funny fact about you that you’d be willing to share…? When I was teething, the only thing that would calm me was chewing on a large rubber bat from the Halloween store.

Spotlight on BG:
How long have you been contributing to KD?
Around 3 years.
Where do you live? (State, Country)
Kansas City, MO (USA)
When did you realize you had a passion for art/design?
Around age 5
Did you inherit your passion/artistic genetics from someone in your family?
No, but I did inherit my entrepreneur spirit from my dad. This month
I celebrate 20 years working as a self employed artist.
What is one of your favorite design/art you have created?
Why this piece?
Over ten years ago I took graphic elements from one of my logos and created this design. Several
designers said it would make a great rug but I knew nothing about the rug industry. Four years later I got the courage to present it to a rug manufacturer who loved it. This rug design became a top seller and I’vebeen designing rugs ever since.
Do you have a hobby outside creating/art?
I love dancing and have competed in disco, ballroom, and 2-step country dance competitions. I’ve won
trips, money and various prizes. I last competed around 10 years ago.
If you were a color, what color would you be?
Periwinkle Blue
Favorite food?
Mexican
Favorite movie or book?
My favorite movie is Gone With The Wind.
A guilty pleasure?
Eating junk food
If we showed up at your house unexpectedly on a Friday evening, what is something we would nd you doing?
Relaxing and watching tv.
An interesting or funny fact about you that you’d be willing to share…?
I exhibited my designs in NY one year and stayed at a friend’s apt because hotels were too expensive.
Food was cheaper in Kansas City so I ran to the grocery store and purchased tv dinners (4 for $10) and packed one of my suitcases with frozen food. While waiting in line at the airport I noticed everyone staring at my luggage. The hot air around the cold luggage caused a fog and my suitcase looked like it was sweating with lots of smoke around it. I quickly looked at the security guards and told them I was a food stylist traveling with frozen items.
Everyone then was relieved – including me.
Hey, you have to do what you have to do to cut down on expenses.
Again - I thank you all for lending parts of you to Kim Designs.
Hugs and cheer for a great spring Tuesday.

Spotlight on Tracy M. at KIMDESIGNS:
We truly are an "interesting lot" contributing to KD.
I thought this would be a fun exercise in getting to know each other in our virtual set-up that we have here at KD.
I personally always wish I could know each of you better outside of the designs we enjoy between us.
So...we are going to be doing a spotlight feature and getting to everyone!
First Up:
Tracy M.
How long have you been contributing to KD? For three years.
Where do you live? (State, Country) The small town of Northville, Michigan.
When did you realize you had a passion for art/design? At almost the same time, when I was maybe 5, I knew I wanted to be an artist AND be able to sew. Though I am now more designer than artist, this and sewing are how I make a living.
Did you inherit your passion/artistic genetics from someone in your family? My mom was an expert seamstress, who sewed all my clothes, and my grandmother was an artist.
What is one of your favorite design/art you have created?
Why this piece? It's almost impossible to choose my favorite piece since it's usually the one I've just finished. I choose this one, though. It encompasses so much of what I want my designs to be: clean and crisp, modern but classic, and thoroughly original.
Do you have a hobby outside creating/art? I mentioned sewing, which is more than a hobby. It is what paid the bills when I was a single mother of two children. I still take in sewing, though now it's limited to home decor items, especially slipcovers. I LOVE refinishing old furniture that I found or bought for next-to-nothing.
If you were a color, what color would you be? I can't choose one!
Favorite food? I know I should say broccoli or apples, but my favorite food has to be fresh baked bread.
What is something we would find you doing on a Friday evening? I'd be lying on the sofa with my sweetheart watching TV.
An interesting fact about you that you’d be willing to share…? I've found that living a vegan life and being very physically fit are two of the secrets to peace and happiness.
Next, we will feature you! Coming soon..more "spotlights"...
